What is invisalign?
Are you interested in Invisalign at Something To Smile About in Merrimack, NH? There is much more to Invisalign than just providing you with a straighter smile. Properly aligned, straight teeth aren't just beautiful, they are more comfortable and healthier. Crooked teeth and an improper bite can lead to future dental concerns that can be expensive to fix and painful. This is why our cosmetic dentist and Invisalign provider, Dr. Kevin Boulard, is pleased to provide Invisalign — removable, clear teeth aligners for his patients at Something To Smile About.
Each Invisalign tray is custom made for your teeth and your unique goals. Not to mention, Invisalign is attractive and more comfortable to wear than traditional metal orthodontics. These clear aligners may be taken out at any time to make cleaning your teeth and eating much easier. If you are interested in getting healthier teeth with Invisalign, schedule a consultation with Dr. Boulard at Something To Smile About.
"I’ve been a patient with Dr. Boulard for 14 years. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my teeth! Always makes me feel comfortable and never a painful experience. I love the fact that they have high tech scanners so I never gag, no more gunky impressions. and they have up to date technology, with the option of also getting Invisalign. The rest of the staff is lovely and the office manager, Olga, is amazing! They are so efficient and well mannered. I highly recommend!"- D.S. / Google / May 24, 2021
How do I qualify for Invisalign?
Invisalign is wonderful for both teens and adults who would like straighter teeth minus the pain, hassle, and appearance of traditional metal braces. While they do need to be worn for the majority of the time, Invisalign may be taken out for cleaning your teeth and eating, as well as for special occasions and playing sports. Invisalign is more discreet than traditional metal orthodontics that can cut and poke the inside of your cheeks, and most people will probably not realize that you are using your Invisalign aligners. You might need an orthodontic treatment if you:
- Have misaligned teeth
- Have trouble keeping your teeth clean because of the alignment of your teeth
- Have a dental malocclusion (bad bite)
- Have uneven wear on your teeth from your bite
- Have difficulty chewing or speaking because of your bite
- Have jaw and/or tooth pain
Dr. Boulard may find one or more of these issues in your dental examination and make a recommendation for orthodontic treatment. This may include Invisalign or a more traditional approach with fixed braces. He will discuss your options with you after examining your teeth and bite.
Dr. Boulard's approach to invisalign
Your first Invisalign trays will be created using our iTero® digital impression scanner at Something To Smile About. We will send the impressions out to our laboratory to be manufactured. Once they are ready and back at our office, you will return to receive your first trays with care instructions from Dr. Boulard.
You should wear your aligners for at least 20 – 22 hours each day for the system to be effective. Ideally, you should only remove them for cleaning and eating. Over time, you'll move to the next set of aligners as your teeth and bite change. The aligners will move your teeth into alignment. You will need to have appointments every 4 – 6 weeks at Something To Smile About to have your impressions remade. If you are consistent in wearing your Invisalign trays as directed, you should be on track to complete your treatment on time. How long you need to use Invisalign trays will be determined by the condition of your teeth and your cosmetic goals. Most of our patients wear aligners for about one year or longer.
Throughout your Invisalign treatment
Once your bite is in alignment, it is important to stop your teeth from shifting into their old position. You will need to be fitted for a retainer made with the same material as your Invisalign to keep your teeth in place. Every retainer is custom made at the Invisalign dental laboratory based on new impressions taken once your treatment is complete. Dr. Boulard will talk to you about how long to wear your retainer and how to clean it once it is sent from the laboratory. Dr. Boulard will continue to watch the alignment of your teeth and bite during your dental examinations to ensure your teeth remain in their new place.
