- Aligners are virtually invisible
- Effectively straightens your teeth
- More comfortable to wear than traditional braces
- Saves time with fewer office visits

- Removable for special occasions and sports

- Easy to clean and maintain
- No orthodontic emergencies
HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR INVISALIGN?
Invisalign is wonderful for both teens and adults who would like straighter teeth minus the pain, hassle, and appearance of traditional metal braces. While they do need to be worn for the majority of the time, Invisalign may be taken out for cleaning your teeth and eating, as well as for special occasions and playing sports. Invisalign is more discreet than traditional metal orthodontics that can cut and poke the inside of your cheeks, and most people will probably not realize that you are using your Invisalign aligners. You might need an orthodontic treatment if you:
- Have misaligned teeth
- Have trouble keeping your teeth clean because of the alignment of your teeth
- Have a dental malocclusion (bad bite)
- Have uneven wear on your teeth from your bite
- Have difficulty chewing or speaking because of your bite
- Have jaw and/or tooth pain
Dr. Boulard may find one or more of these issues in your dental examination and make a recommendation for orthodontic treatment. This may include Invisalign or a more traditional approach with fixed braces. He will discuss your options with you after examining your teeth and bite.
DR. BOULARD’S APPROACH TO INVISALIGN
Your first Invisalign trays will be created using our iTero® digital impression scanner at Something To Smile About. We will send the impressions out to our laboratory to be manufactured. Once they are ready and back at our office, you will return to receive your first trays with care instructions from Dr. Boulard.
You should wear your aligners for at least 20 – 22 hours each day for the system to be effective. Ideally, you should only remove them for cleaning and eating. Over time, you’ll move to the next set of aligners as your teeth and bite change. The aligners will move your teeth into alignment. You will need to have appointments every 4 – 6 weeks at Something To Smile About to have your impressions remade. If you are consistent in wearing your Invisalign trays as directed, you should be on track to complete your treatment on time. How long you need to use Invisalign trays will be determined by the condition of your teeth and your cosmetic goals. Most of our patients wear aligners for about one year or longer.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FOLLOWING INVISALIGN TREATMENT?
When your treatment is finished, it’s essential to keep your teeth in place by wearing a set of retainers. Custom-made Vivera® retainers are constructed with the same clear, comfortable substance as the teeth aligners and are made in the Invisalign laboratory. Once they arrive at Something To Smile About, a member of our team will discuss when you should wear your retainers, as well as ways to clean them. Dr. Boulard will consistently evaluate the positioning of your teeth and your bite during your subsequent regular visits.
INVISALIGN FAQ
Is Invisalign painful?
No, it isn’t. The actual Invisalign treatment itself doesn’t hurt. It is common to experience some minor teeth soreness and sensitivity as your teeth adjust to a new Invisalign aligner tray. These typically go away after a few days and are easily controlled with over-the-counter pain relievers if necessary.
How long does it take to straighten your teeth with Invisalign?
How long your Invisalign treatment takes will depend on the severity of your teeth misalignment, but on average most patients will wear their Invisalign trays for 12 – 18 months.
Do I have to wear my Invisalign clear aligners all day?
To achieve the best results, Dr. Boulard recommends you wear your Invisalign trays at least 20 – 22 hours a day. Removing them to eat, brush your teeth, play sports, or for a special occasion is OK, but they should be replaced after 15 minutes for optimal outcomes.
How often are Invisalign trays changed?
Most patients will change their Invisalign trays every week. Every 4 – 6 weeks, you will have an appointment with Dr. Boulard to examine your teeth and take a new impression for your next set of trays.
